The Government Calls Me Catherine (The G.C.M.C)
The Government Calls Me Catherine (The G.C.M.C) was founded in 2021 by the one and only, Cat Ivy out of a desire to give herself the permission to be exactly who she is without any guilt or reservation. Thus, The G.C.M.C is unapologetically about self-actualization, self-determination, and self-love.
Forever chasers of truth and students of the heart, The G.C.M.C’s mission is to empower us all to be the best versions of ourselves in healthy, authentic, and empowering ways.
Inspired by classic rock and modern pop music, they compare to Joan Jett, Heart, John Mayer, Sara Bareilles, and Taylor Swift; giving us a a familiar and uniquely distinct power pop sound to support our adventures in “Wonderland”.

Cat Ivy
Lead Singer, Songwriter, Producer, Guitar
Cat is influenced by a wide variety of artists, bands, and songwriters like Sara Bareilles, John Mayer, the Beatles, Queen, and Taylor Swift. She grew up in a suburb of Los Angeles and always had a dream to do something extraordinary. Cat started playing piano at 7, writing songs at 10, and playing guitar at 12 (thanks, Taylor Swift!). In 2012, she released her debut EP right before leaving for college.
When Cat left for college, she tried to forget about her dreams of being a singer/songwriter. Eventually, she found my way back, initially trading pop music for Classical and Jazz while studying intensively in Washington, DC. On Cat’s 21st birthday, she realized she couldn’t picture herself doing anything other than creating music and Cat decided that night that she would move back to Los Angeles and pursue a career as a singer/songwriter.
Upon moving back to Los Angeles, Cat became involved at the Songwriting School of Los Angeles and played shows throughout Southern California. During the COVID-19 Pandemic, she began producing her own music and eventually decided to form this band, The Government Calls Me Catherine.
